The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially welcomed offensive defensive tackle Derrick Harmon to their roster as their first-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. The team announced the addition with a celebratory social media post captioned “Welcome to the team, DJ!”
Harmon, a powerful defensive tackle, was selected 21st overall by the Steelers after a strong college career split between Michigan State and Oregon. A Detroit native and Loyola High School standout, Harmon first made an impact with the Spartans before transferring to Oregon, where he started all 14 games in 2024 and earned second-team Associated Press All-American honors.
Known for his strength in the trenches and disruptive presence on the defensive line, Harmon is expected to be an immediate contributor as Pittsburgh reloads its defensive front for the upcoming season.
Rich Franchise History Welcomes New Chapter
For Harmon, joining the Steelers means becoming part of one of the NFL’s most storied franchises. The Pittsburgh Steelers, founded in 1933, are tied with the New England Patriots for the most Super Bowl victories in NFL history with six championships. As one of the oldest and most successful franchises in the league, the Steelers have built a tradition of excellence.
The team is also in the midst of a transition period, having moved on from longtime quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and now looking to build around Russell Wilson. Harmon’s addition represents an investment and a foundation for future success.
