Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel is making the most of his time in Ireland before the team’s historic game, trading his football gear for fishing equipment at a local angling center.

Keisel, who spent his entire 13-season NFL career with the Steelers, was spotted at the Laois Angling Centre, where he joined professional fisherman Senan Stanley for what the team described as “Day 1 of Brett’s trip to Ireland.”

In the Instagram post shared by the official Steelers account, Keisel can be seen proudly displaying his catch while standing alongside Stanley at the fishing center. The image shows both men smiling broadly while holding fishing rods, with Keisel sporting his trademark beard.

The Steelers’ social media team has been documenting Keisel’s Irish adventure, recently posting a quick-fire question interview with the former defensive star. In that post, they playfully noted that “When it comes to fishing and football, Brett is a seasoned vet,” highlighting his dual passions.

The 45-year-old Keisel, known by Steelers fans for his iconic beard and defensive prowess, appears to be thoroughly enjoying his Irish fishing expedition before turning his attention to football activities.

Steelers In Ireland

Keisel’s fishing trip came just one day before the Pittsburgh Steelers appeared at Croke Park in Dublin, as mentioned in the team’s social media post which concluded with: “See yinz in Croke Park tomorrow 💪” and the hashtag #SteelersIreland.

The Steelers’ presence in Ireland is part of the NFL’s international series, bringing American football to global audiences. The game at Croke Park represents a significant milestone for both the team and the league’s international expansion efforts.

The Ireland trip comes on the heels of an exciting period for the Steelers organization, which recently completed its selections in the 2024 NFL Draft. The team has been actively sharing draft-related content on social media, including footage from their draft party at Stage AE in Pittsburgh where fans gathered to celebrate their first-round selection.

Keisel, selected in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL Draft, developed into a key component of the Steelers’ defensive line during his career. He was part of the team’s Super Bowl XL and XLIII championship squads, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2010.

His journey from a late-round draft pick to becoming a fan favorite and champion exemplifies the “Steelers DNA” that the organization recently referenced in another social media post.

Steelers Nation will undoubtedly be watching as their team takes the field in Dublin, bringing their distinctive brand of football to Irish soil while ambassadors like Keisel help spread the team’s culture across the Atlantic.
